When lab testing is the job
- A buyer, HOA, or insurer asked for air samples in writing
- You need to know if Stachybotrys or other species are present, not just that a wall is stained
- A remediator finished work and you want numbers, not a verbal all-clear
- Health questions in the house and you want indoor air compared to outdoor air
- A cavity smells or reads wet and you need interstitial air before opening a wall
What mold testing includes
- Decide if sampling is even useful
We do not sell cassettes for their own sake. If a visual inspection already answers the question, we say so before you pay for lab time.
- Outdoor control plus indoor zones
Spore traps indoors are compared to outdoor air so a South Florida afternoon does not get called an indoor problem by itself.
- Surface sampling
Tape lifts or swabs on visible or suspected growth when you need a species ID on a specific spot.
- Cavity sampling when walls are in play
Interstitial air from a wall or ceiling cavity under controlled pull, used when meters point to a hidden problem.
- Lab and report
Accredited microscopy, chain of custody, and a report that states what the numbers mean for this house.
Testing without a sales pitch
Florida law treats inspection and remediation as separate work for a reason. The person who counts spores should not be the person quoting demolition. Brownfish Field Inspections collects samples, sends them under chain of custody, and writes what the lab found. You hire cleanup separately if the report calls for it.

FAQ
Questions people ask before they book
Is a home test kit enough?
A kit tells you that spores exist. They exist in every Florida house. It does not map moisture, compare indoor air to outdoor air, or produce a report an insurer will file. That is the gap a licensed test fills.
Do you test for black mold?
Yes. Labs identify Stachybotrys and other species from air or surface samples. Color on a wall is not a species ID. Paint and dirt look black too.
How many samples do I need?
Enough to answer the question you called about. One bathroom stain is not ten cassettes. A whole-house air quality complaint is a different set. We quote the set before we sample.
How long for lab results?
Standard is 1-2 business days after the lab receives the samples. Rush is available. The written report follows once the lab posts.
Can you test one room only?
Yes. We target the rooms you care about and still take an outdoor control so the indoor number has a baseline.
Do you sell remediation after the lab comes back high?
No. You get the numbers and a scope you can bid to a remediator of your choosing.
